Oil prices advanced on Friday and held above $100 per barrel, extending
weekly gains as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz during the Iran war raised
fears of major supply disruptions and a potential inflationary shock. Market-
calming steps, including the IEA’s record emergency oil release and US plans
to allow some sanctioned Russian crude purchases, did little to ease concerns.
Brent crude soared by 2.7% to $103.14 per barrel.
